I spent 13 years volunteering with Derby Kids Camp, a charity that takes underprivileged children on holiday every summer.
During that time, I wrote over 10,000 lines of code trying to tame the admin chaos - applications, DBS checks, training records, shift signups. All the things that eat your evenings when you're trying to run a volunteer organisation.

The Problem I Lived
Every year, Derby Kids Camp coordinates 200+ volunteers. Applications come in. DBS checks need tracking. Training certificates expire. People need to sign up for shifts. And someone - usually me - ends up chasing missing forms at 11pm the night before camp starts.
I tried everything. Google Forms. Spreadsheets. Shared drives. Email chains. They all worked... until they did not. The data got messy. Things fell through the cracks. And I spent more time on admin than actually supporting volunteers.
What I Built
After years of bodging solutions together, I finally built the system I had always wanted. A proper volunteer portal where people can apply online, upload their documents, see their status, and sign up for sessions - all in one place.
The admin dashboard shows me everything at a glance. Who has applied, who is approved, who is missing what. No more chasing. No more copying between spreadsheets. No more 11pm panics.
